Rancho Cucamonga highlight

Wine

Rancho Cucamonga was granted to Tiburcio Tapia in 1839, who became one of California's earliest winemakers, planting the vineyards that shaped the region's agricultural identity.

Rancho Cucamonga's history as a wine region traces to 1839, when Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado granted 13,000 acres to Tiburcio Tapia, a Spanish merchant from Los Angeles who is recognized as one of California's first winemakers. Tapia planted vineyards on his new property, establishing grape cultivation that would define the region for generations. The property changed hands, but the vineyard tradition continued through subsequent owners who recognized the potential of the land and climate for viticulture.

The rancho estate later came to represent one of Southern California's significant agricultural enterprises. John Rains purchased the property in 1858 and completed Casa de Rancho Cucamonga in 1860, a structure that still stands and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The vineyards and agricultural output of Rancho Cucamonga contributed substantially to the regional economy through the 19th and into the 20th centuries, though like much of California's agricultural land, it eventually gave way to urban development as the city grew.

Today, while the extensive vineyards of Rancho Cucamonga's past have largely been replaced by homes and businesses, the memory of that agricultural heritage remains part of the city's identity. For families in Rancho Cucamonga, the legacy of stewardship—of land, of resources, of what is built to last—reflects in how they approach planning for their own households. A term life policy embodies that same long-term thinking: a commitment to the land and home you build, and to the people who will inherit it.
